Chapter music director Lisette Kielson along with viola da gamba player Phillip Serna performed during Bach Week!
Long time Chicago Chapter member Rudy Mundle passed away last week at the age of 95. Larry Johnson, Nancy Chabala, Karen Hayes, Lynette Colmey and Mark Dawson played a musical tribute at his wake. The group played some of the hand made tenors that Rudy had made.

For our April 17 meeting we return to our regular meeting place at Covenant Presbyterian Church. Lisette Kielson will be leading the meeting. We will be playing music in preparation for the May concert to perform as a group. Also, Joanne Miller is sponsoring the event and will be providing some music for us to try. We are also planning a brief member’s discussion after we return from the break, to talk about plans for the chapter for the 2016-2017 season and beyond. Please be sure to join us. Many thanks to the West Suburban Early Music Society for sponsoring our Play the Recorder Event at the Oak Park Public Library on March 19.
The Chicago Chapter played at the Oak Park Public Library on March 19, 2016 as part of play the recorder month. The chapter was joined by students of Sarah Buksa’s Recorder Club from Carnegie Elementary School. We really enjoyed having the students perform and play with us!

For our March meeting, we are planning to take part in Play the Recorder Month and return to the Oak Park Public Library, but this year the meeting will be held on Saturday, March 19 at 2 PM.
Lisette will direct us in a recorder orchestra session and will provide parts. The library is at 834 Lake Street, near Oak Park Avenue. You can park in the garage, or on side streets. You can also walk from the L stop at Oak Park Avenue or the Oak Park Metra station. Our friends from the West Suburban Early Music Society are sponsoring this meeting, and we look forward to them joining us. They plan to bring some of their own music, too.
The March 2016 newsletter is now available.
Our director will be Mirja Lorenz. Mirja expects us to dance. Or, rather, to play Italian and French dances from the 16th century, pavanes, gagliardas, and saltarellos, as well as French Chansons from 1530 to 1550. These will be works by Jean Doublet, Robert Godard, Nicolas de Mal Marle, and—the coolest name of all— Nicolle des Celliers d’ Hesdin!
Our Feburary Newsletter is available now: February 2016
Louise Austin, a good friend of the Chicago Chapter, will be leading a workshop sponsored by the Milwaukee Recorder Society entitled ‘Starship Louise’. It will be on April 30 at Lake Lawn Lodge in Delavan, WI.

The January meeting will be on January 17th. Our subject this session will be Jazz recorder. Patrick O’Malley will lead us in understanding how to play Jazz on the recorder.
Following our playing session, we will have a special meeting. The board would like to solicit your ideas and opinions on the direction of the chapter.

I hope to see you all there!
Do you love to play the recorder? Do you want to learn new techniques and brush up on skills? Have you been thinking about joining the Chapter?
Prospective new members may now join the Chicago Chapter of the American Recorder Society for half the membership rate. That would be $15 for an individual membership increasing to $30 the year after.
