  • Plan to join the Chicago Chapter on Sunday, November 19th!

    Our November opening session at 1 PM, with Lisette, will include technique and musical selections in preparation for our participation in University of Chicago’s Folk Music Festival (Feb 10th).

    At 2:00, Lisette will lead us in exploring a Bach Fugue, a Guami Canzonette, and hold our final rehearsal of Peter Beck’s La Marche des Rois for our performance in the Yuletide Concert in December.

    NOTE: Players must have been present at October’s meeting and/or our upcoming November meeting in order to perform with the Chapter! Please contact Lisette at LisetteKielson@gmail.com with any questions.

  • Join the Chicago Chapter on Sunday, October 15th!

    Join the Chicago Chapter on Sunday, October 15, at 1 PM at Covenant Presbyterian Church, when we will start with an hour of directed group playing.

    Then at 2 PM Lisette Kielson returns, with two early Renaissance trios, an arrangement of Machaut’s Douce Dame, a march by Strauss and another march by one of our own chapter members!

  • Welcome to our 2023-2024 Season!

    Join the Chicago Chapter on Sunday September 17 at 1 PM as we begin our new season. All the music for September is available here now. Meeting location information is found here.

    Lisette Kielson returns to lead us for all seven regular meetings as Music Director of the chapter! This season she will offer warm up techniques from 1 to 1:50 PM, guiding us through ensemble exercises and repertoire focusing on tone, articulation, and finger work. Traditional playing sessions follow from 2 to 4 PM featuring in-depth work on small and large-scale compositions from the Middle Ages to the present.

  • Join us for our Spring Concert on May 21st!

    Please come to our May meeting and Spring concert, when all are invited to play, in any solo or group arrangement, or to just listen!

    Refreshments and group playing will follow!

    Make plans to join us for our final meeting of the 2022-2023 season, our spring concert on May 21 at 1 PM. All are invited to perform, or just listen and enjoy, and all types of music are welcome. If you would like to play in the program, send the names of the performers, the title of the pieces you plan to play, and the name of the composer or composers, to Mark Dawson at msjddawson@sbcglobal.net.

    As always, we will begin the meeting at 1 PM with free-form group playing, music provided and posted by the chapter.

    At 2 PM, Lisette will lead us in our final rehearsal of Charpentier’s Ouverture (in preparation for our Spring Concert). In addition, we will explore JS Bach’s Contrapunctus I, Clara Schumann’s Romance arranged by chapter member Libby Rudolph, and of course some Rooda technique work!

  • Join us on Sunday, March 19th, to to welcome Mirja Lorenz and her presentation of Renaissance hits!

    As always, we will begin the meeting at 1 PM with free-form group playing, music provided and posted by the chapter.

    At 2 PM, Mirja Lorenz will conduct the group in a variety of beautiful Renaissance pieces by Italian, English and German composers, with one modern arrangement of a favorite Renaissance dance.

  • Join us on Sunday, February 19th, to brighten the ‘Bleak Midwinter’ with music!

    Beat the midwinter blues!

    We will begin the meeting at 1 PM with free-form group playing, music to be provided by the chapter.

    At 2 PM, Lisette Kielson will direct the group in dances by Attaignant, a fantasie by du Caurroy, Contrapunctus I from Bach’s Art of Fugue, another shot at Machaut’s Doulz Amis from last month (because who can capture medieval music in one session?!), and Charpentier’s Ouverture (a contender for the May concert).

  • Ring in a musical New Year with us on Sunday, January 15, starting at 1 PM!

    Happy New Year to all!

    We will begin the meeting with free-form group playing, with music to be provided by the chapter.

    At 2 PM, Lisette Kielson returns with a celebration of French music from the 14th to 20th centuries. Machaut will represent the Middle Ages, Dornel and Charpentier the Baroque and Poulenc the early 20th century, with a nod to the late Renaissance. All following, of course our non-French Rooda scale warmups!

    Join us in beginning a Happy New Musical Year!

  • Join us for our annual Yuletide Concert on December 18th at 1 PM!

    All are invited to participate in the 1 PM concert, performing or listening. If you or your group would like to perform, contact Mark Dawson at msjddawson@sbcglobal.net. Let him know ahead of time to be included in the printed program, but all will be welcome to play in any case.

    All chapter members are invited to play in the chapter performance pieces, that are available now on this website (here). Also contact Mark Dawson, above, if you plan to participate in the chapter performance.

    The traditional holiday treats table will be featured after the concert portion of the meeting. Feel free to bring some holiday edible to share!

    We will then close the meeting with some group playing of music to be provided by the chapter.

    Please mark December 18th on your calendar and come to our annual holiday celebration!

  • Join the Chicago Chapter on Sunday, November 20th!

    Please join us on November 20, at 1 PM, when Andrew Schultze returns to offer music from the 18th century Hapsburg Court of Vienna. Besides courtly chamber music and dances, Andrew will consider life in Vienna in Mozart’s day, including music for household gatherings intended for friends to play together in the parlor, as well as popular works and the first written notations of Hungarian songs. Join us!
