University of Chicago Folk Festival

The Chicago Recorder Society presents a participatory workshop at the University of Chicago Folk Festival! We perform short popular works, then invite the audience to join us in playing a series of Renaissance dances.

Ida Noyes Hall

Join us, and bring your recorder (we’ll have extras, if you don’t have one).

Workshops at the UofC Folk Festival are free and open to the public (registration not required).

For more than six decades, the University of Chicago Folk Festival has brought together an array of musicians and performers from a diverse range of cultural backgrounds—all united through a love for music, dance and cultural expression. According to fourth-year student and Folklore Society co-president Nick Rommel, the campus tradition is a “a celebration of music and culture—one where our relationship with the music is close and personal, not where we are just consumers—which is missing in many aspects of our lives.”
