Recorder and Renaissance Wind Music Workshop

On Saturday, March 22, 2025, the Chicago Recorder Society, together with Old Town School of Folk Music, offered a workshop for playing the recorder and Renaissance wind instruments. We achieved our goal — a musical zoo, recorders making harmonies with crumhorn, shawm, dulcian, sackbut, serpent, and more, the instruments that were popular for playing for dances or just for getting together to jam 500 years ago.

We welcomed Liza Malamut as the director for the day. Liza is the artistic director of the celebrated Newberry Consort in Chicago. A specialist in Renaissance music, Liza plays sackbut, an early form of the trombone, and teaches the instrument at Indiana University.

NOTE: If you registered and received the password, the workshop music is still found here for a limited time.
